A Day at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Schumansville, Virginia
Hello everyone, AJ the CEO here. Today, I want to share with you an exciting journey I embarked on at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, located in the quaint town of Schumansville, Virginia. It's a place I had never heard of before, but my adventure there turned out to be quite the memorable experience.
The Early Start and Initial Walkthrough
Arriving early at the church, I was greeted by the serene surroundings of this beautiful community. The day began with a walkthrough of the church, a crucial step for me to understand the space and plan the media ministry upgrades effectively. This was not just another job; it was a mission to enhance the way the church connects with its congregation through technology.
Phase-by-Phase Approach to Upgrades
The church decided to adopt a phase approach for the upgrades, which I found to be a practical and efficient way to manage the transformation. The first phase involved installing new cameras and a joystick control system. We planned to relocate one camera to a central position, ensuring it dipped below the stained glass to avoid any interference from the chandeliers. Another camera was to be placed strategically at the front.
Technical Enhancements and Challenges
The technical side of the project was fascinating. All TVs in the church were already wired, but they needed an upgrade to a 4K HDMI splitter. We also planned to integrate an ATEM Mini Extreme and set up a PoE switch. The wireless mics and amps, previously located in a less ideal spot, were to be moved to a more suitable rack mount.
One of the challenges we faced was the necessity to work around the church's architecture. We hoped to avoid any major work in the ceiling and instead planned to run cables along existing paths.
Custom Solutions for a Unique Space
Understanding that each church has its unique needs, we decided to install a custom PC dedicated to the ministry. This would ensure that the church's media needs were not competing with other demands. Additionally, we looked into enhancing the audio distribution downstairs, testing existing cables, and considering the installation of a soundbar for better audio quality in that area.
Reflections and Looking Forward
As I wrapped up my day at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, I couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment and excitement for what's to come. This project was more than just a technical upgrade; it was about empowering a community through technology, allowing them to connect and share their message more effectively.
Stay tuned for more updates as we progress with this transformative journey at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. Remember, whether it's a small town church or a large city congregation, every step towards modernizing your media ministry is a step towards connecting hearts and souls in our digital age.
